Ika Natassa launched her latest new book entitled Sementara, Selamanya, on Sunday (23/8). Even though it was conducted online, the launch of this book was still warmly welcomed by hundreds of readers from all over Indonesia.
"The pandemic and conditions caused my space to be limited to just at home. A major change compared to my usual life. There was loneliness, there was longing, there was anxiety. I poured all these feelings into Sementara, Selamanya, especially through the character of Saka," said Ika.
Initially, Sementara, Selamanya was an impulsive writing project to be used as a mini-series scenario by Reza Rahadian. When it was finally published as a book, Ika felt that readers would not lose satisfaction in reading it, when compared to a novel.
“Storytelling through scenarios presents limitations that I didn't encounter when writing a novel, but those limitations are a challenge for me as a writer. The screenplay is not only a guide for the actors and actresses who portray the characters but also a powerful tool for the director and all the crew involved. In this Sementara, Selamanya's scenario, I embrace it as a new storytelling style, combining descriptions like I usually do when writing novels with the agility of dialogue, "added Ika.
Sementara, Selamanya tells about Saka and his wife Zara. When COVID-19 broke out in Jakarta, the couple then decided to live separately because Zara was a doctor who handled a lot of COVID-19 patients. During these challenging times, every day Saka was looking forward to a video call with his wife.
The challenges then became even more pronounced, when this couple felt that being alone was not as easy as they had imagined. The emergence of a problem begins to make them wonder if the promised breakup will only be temporary.
"Sementara, Selamanya is very beautiful. Simple, but it struck to the heart". —Putri Marino (Actress)
“Put relevance in again, Ika Natassa's exploration of intimacy brought by Reza Rahadian's all-round talent, Laura Basuki's amazing voice act, and Christine Hakim's short yet bravura powerhouse. Sementara, Selamanya is a moving portrait of how deep hearts could go for a while, stays forever". —Daniel Irawan (Film Critic)
"Currently, only 1,000 copies are printed, and the sales are also through the pre-order system which will start today August 25. Seeing the enthusiasm on social media and also at the online launch yesterday, we are optimistic that this book will also run out in a matter of minutes, like the pre-orders of Ika's previous books, "said Dionisius Wisnu of Public Relations Gramedia Pustaka Utama.
Sementara, Selamanya became Ika Natassa's eleventh book published by Gramedia Pustaka Utama, after A Very Yuppy Wedding (2007), Divortiare (2008), Antologi Rasa (2011), Twivortiare (2012), Twivortiare 2 (2014), Critical Eleven (2015), Underground (2016), The Architecture of Love (2016), Critical Eleven Screenplay Book (2017), dan Susah Sinyal: A novel published in 2018.
